Day 1, USA - Shanghai
Our flight departs from the USA bound for Shanghai. Spend the Night aboard
as we cross the Pacific Ocean.
Evening arrival at Shanghai. Entering the city, we are amazed by the
sheer number of people as Shanghai is indeed China's most populous
city. Check into our five star luxury accommodations.
Day 3, Shanghai
Our first day of sightseeing inn China takes us all around
Shinghai, by far China's most advanced, cosmopolitan city. We visit
Yu Garden, a Ming dynasty-era garden, Nanjing Road, and the famed
waterfront Bund, once known as the Wall Street of Asia. Evening entertainment
is provided by a wonderful Chinese Acrobatics Show.
Day 4, Shanghai -
Suzhou - Wuxi
Depart by motorcoach to the Garden City of Suzhou. Suzhou has aptly
been dubbed the "Venice of the East" and is a city interlaced by
canals. We visit the Humble Administrator's Garden and Grand Canal,
then proceed onwards to Wuxi where we overnight.
Wuxi - Nanjing - Yangtze River Cruise
This morning we enjoy a cruise of Tai Lake, 2200 sq. km fresh water
lake with an average depth of just two meters. Continue on by bus to
Nanjing, the wartime capital of China during WWII. At Nanjing, we
visit the Mausoleum of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. We board our Victoria Cruise
ship later in the afternoon.
Yangtze River Cruise (Mt. Jiuhuashan)
Our ship arrives at Guichi for our first shore excursion to Mount
Jiuhuashan. Reboard later in the afternoon and continue up river on
Yangtze River Cruise (Jiujiang)
Disembark at Jiujiang. A city tour of this picturesque quaint riverside
town is provided.
Yangtze River Cruise (Wuhan)
Arrival at Wuhan. A city tour is included of this major industrial and
commercial center of central China.
Day 9 Yangtze River Cruise
Arrival at Yueyang. Go ashore for an excursion to this ancient city,
reboarding later in the afternoon.
Yangtze River Cruise (Three Gorges Dam)
We spend the morning viewing the construction of the Three Gorges Dam being
built for folld control and power generation. Reboard and sail through the
most treasured scenery on the Yangtze, the Three Gorges. We pass through
the idyllic Xiling Gorge and craggy steep cliffs of Wu Gorge. Arrival at
Wushan and stay aboard the ship for the night.
Yangtze River Cruise
Depending on river conditions, our shore excursions either at the Daning
River or at Shengnong Stream. Board small motorized sampans to
access the tributary of the Yantze. Return to the ship in the
afternoon as our vessel passes through the narrow meandering passages of
the Qutang Gorge.
Yangtze River Cruise
Depending on river conditions, we arrive at Fengdu or Wanxian.
Fengdu is known as the "Ghost City." Wanxian is a
mountainous city situated on a lush and picturesque site, famous for its
silk weaving factories.
Yangtze River Cruise - Chongqing - Xian
The Grand Yangtze River cruise comes to an end with our arrival at
Chongqing in the Sichuan province. Here we visit Chongqing Zoo and
enjoy a lunch of local spicy Sichuan cuisine. In the afternoon
we depart for Xian by air. Upon landing we are transferred tot he
hotel and check-in.
Xian, the historic starting point often famed Silk Road, is the cradle of
ancient Chinese civilization and served as the capital of 11
dynasties. The 1974 discovery of the life-sized Terra Cotta Army
guarding the tomb of China's first emperor Qin Shi Huang made Xian a
tourist magnet. Travel back into town ot visit the impregnable
looking City Wall. Tonight, after an imperial Drumpling Banquet,
evening entertainment is provided by a stage opera of the Tang Dynasty.
Xian - Beijing
After checking out, our final scenic point of interest in Xian is
the Big Wild Goose Pagoda; continue on to the airport as we board
our short flight to Beijing, China's capital city. Upon
arrival, we take a tour of the solemn and glorious Temple of Heaven,
where past emperors prayed tot he heavens for a bountiful harvest.
China's political center is home of over 10 million people. Our full
day tour takes us to Tiananmen Square (Gate of Heavenly Peace), Forbidden
city and the Summer Palace, a place of rest and recreation for hte emperor
and his royal family.
Built to protect from northern marauders, the Great Wall snakes its way
thousands of miles across Northern China and is visible even from the
moon. We spend this morning walking atop this man made wonder of the
world, descending to visit the Ming Tomb Museum. Tonight we savor a
taste of traditionally prepared Peking Duck Feast.
Beijing - USA
The morning is free at leisure until we board our international homebound flight
and bid a fond farewell to China. (AB)
